A reading app you can say yes to.
BookWit is built for young readers first. Under-13s link a parent before anything social unlocks, and you approve every friend.
Linking your child
A reader under 13 can track books and write notes right away. Friends and book clubs stay locked until a parent links their account.
- In BookWit, your child asks for a parent code. Codes expire after 7 days.
- Open app.bookwit.net/guardian and sign in with your own email, not your child's.
- Enter the code. Friends and book clubs unlock in their app.
Approving friends
There's no search, no public profile, and no messaging with strangers. Kids become friends by trading codes, usually in person. For a linked reader under 13, each request waits for you on your parent page, where you approve or decline it.
What you can see
Your parent page shows, for each linked child:
- What they're reading now.
- Pages read in the last 7 days and minutes of timed reading.
- Their approved friends, and requests waiting for you.
What stays private
Some things belong to the reader. You won't see their private notes, and neither will friends or their school.
| Data | Your child | Approved friends | You | School staff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shelf and ratings | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Private notes | Yes | No | No | No |
| Quotes shared with their crew | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Pages and reading time | Yes | No | Yes | Totals only |
Recaps and quizzes are made on your child's iPhone with Apple Intelligence; their notes aren't sent anywhere for them. There are no ads, and we never sell or share data.
If their school uses BookWit
Your child joins their homeroom by scanning a poster. Their pages count toward the homeroom's total. Teachers and principals see only totals per school and homeroom, never one student's reading. How schools use BookWit.
Deleting an account
Your child can delete their account in the app, under Profile, then Delete my account. Everything they own is removed. You can also ask us to delete it at any time through the contact form.
Questions
What age is BookWit for?
Readers of any age. It's designed so that readers under 13 have extra protections: a linked parent and friend approvals.
What do you collect?
A first name or nickname, an email address (or Sign in with Apple), and birth year, plus their reading: books, pages, time, ratings, notes and quotes. No location, contacts or advertising identifiers.
Does BookWit use AI?
Yes, in a few places. Scanning a cover or shelf sends that photo to our AI provider to identify the books. Recommendations use the titles, ratings and tags on their shelf. Soundscapes use only public book details. Recaps run on the iPhone.
Can I link more than one child?
Yes. Link each child with their own code; they all appear on your parent page.
